Dobbs Ferry

Dobbs Ferry is a Village in Westchester County, New York situated in the town of Greenburgh on the Eastern banks of the Hudson Riverabout 37 minutes on an express train and 43 minutes on a local train from Grand Central Station. The namesake of the Village is Captain William H. Dobbs who ran a ferry service crossing the Hudson River here. Captain Dobbs also played a role in the Revolutionary War working alongside General Washington as troops coordinated efforts at the Dobbs Ferry encampment. The Dobbs Ferry Historical Society is an amazing resource and wealth of knowledge about the local history of Dobbs Ferry. The River Front area of the Dobbs Ferry is undergoing major upgrades including building a new fishing pier, boat dock and a playground, installing benches and lights and connecting new walkways to the Westchester County Trailway System. These upgrades are part of a largerRiverWalk trailway project that when complete will be a 51-mile esplanade along the Hudson River. The Village of Dobbs Ferry is a quiet little enclave along the Hudson River with primarily residential neighborhoods and a small business district. Other Nearby Shopping The are several malls and major retail areas pretty close to Dobbs Ferry. Both Gould Park and Memorial Park have children’s playgrounds and sports fields and Gould Park offers a swimming facility as well. Exercise enthusiasts and those who love the outdoors can walk or bike the Old Croton Aqueduct Trail that stretches from the Croton Dam and reservoir in Westchester County all the way to 42nd Street in Manhattan, a distance of 41 miles. The Village of Dobbs Ferry provides a variety of recreation options through the Parks and Recreation Department. TRANSPORTATION The Dobbs Ferry Train Station, served by Metro-North Railroad serves commuters travelling into the city via direct route to Grand Central Terminal. The ride is approximately 37 minutes on an express train and 43 minutes on a local train. Many Metro North riders connect to the New York City Subway at Marble Hill to reach destinations on the west side of Manhattan, or at Harlem–125th Street for the upper east side. SCHOOLS The Dobbs Ferry Union School District is highly regarded in the area. In 1998 the district introduced the challenging and prestigious International Baccalaureate Program (IB) which soon became a big draw to the area. The small district operates three successful schools, Dobbs Ferry High School, Dobbs Ferry Middle School and Springhurst Elementary School. Dobbs Ferry students excel in academics (National Merit Scholars and Intel Science Semi‐Finalists), athletics (State Champion Football Team 4 out of the last 10 years) and the arts (NYSSMA Orchestras, Stepping Eagles Dance Team and Harmonaires Chorus).
